So, the Apple event is knocking right at your door. I hope many of you are excited as I am. What are you really hoping to see in the event? I am excited for the new 13″ MacBook Pro 2016. I have been following all the rumors surrounding it, and almost all the time these rumors come true. The MacBook Pro series haven’t had a serious upgrade in years, and this is the time for redemption. The new MacBook Pro is basically re-designed with many cool features as well. What are they? Well, stay with us and find out in 5 New Features of MacBook Pro 13″ 2016.
I’m so excited right now even about thinking what the new 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 is gonna bring. But we’ve already had so many spoilers hinting what we will get. This is going to be a kind of another spoiler for you too. Here, we will talk not about what the 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 is or how it is, but what it has to offer. So, here we go with the 5 New Features of MacBook Pro 13″ 2016 .
1) 13″ MacBook Pro 2016: Integrated USB-C
I guess it was already clear that Apple was replacing all ports with USB Type-C ports. The Thunderbolt port, the SD-card slot and the MagSafe ports will be gone. But, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is staying, so, no worries there, as the leaked images from the Cult Of Mac suggests.
There are 4 USB-C ports, 2 on each side. The 2 USB-C ports on the left will be integrated with the Thunderbolt 3 while the other 2 USB-Cs on the right will be normal USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. Of course, these ports will also serve as charging ports, and now, you can charge with any of the four ports. How cool is that?
With the Thunderbolt 3 integrated USB-C ports, you can use any external GPUs or even 4K display devices. But since Apple has no 4K monitors up to now, we can only hope for that. Also, these USB 3.1 Gen 2 are extremely fast. They boast up to 10 Gbps on the normal USB-C and up to 40 Gbps transfer speed on the Thunderbolt ports. Now, that’s amazing!
2) 13″ MacBook Pro 2016: OLED Touch bar
Even before the launch of these MacBook Pro 2016, people are already excited about the OLED touch panel that replaces the physical function keys. It lies just above the keyboard and Apple calls it “Magic Toolbar“. This is an absolute game changing design for the new MacBook Pro 2016. This OLED Magic Toolbar will replace the physical Function keys with a set of customizable software keys that can be adapted to the needs and functions of individual apps. Of course, you can still have the Function keys on the OLED screen itself, but it will have much more uses.
Imagine the functionality that this Magic Toolbar can provide with the latest MacOs and third party application usage. From customizing it with shortcut keys to your favorite apps to Media Play controls and all the way to Photo / Video editing, this is very useful. Also, I’ll have to admit that this looks super cool as well.
3) 13″ MacBook Pro 2016: Touch ID
The Magic Toolbar also includes a power button that’s integrated with a fingerprint scanner. The power button is nearly invisible as it is located right next to the Magic Toolbar seamlessly. Since it’s integrated with the power button, you can turn it on / wake it from and sleep and login to your device instantly.

In addition, the Touch ID feature will serve not only to login to your device, for security features, it can also be used while web browsing. You can pretty much login to your accounts with your fingerprint, so, forget passwords! Also, the Touch ID will also allow you to be used on Apple Pay for transactions. How cool and convenient! Furthermore, rumors have it that Apple has patented a way to unlock MacBook Pros using iPhones. So, for the ones who use the previous versions of MacBook Pros, this could be the solution.
4) 13″ MacBook Pro 2016: Apple Pencil Compatible Force Touch Trackpad
The new 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 also incorporates a Force Touch Trackpad. The Force Touch technology in the trackpad allows it to distinguish between a soft press and a hard press, enabling new gestures and options, depending on the software. The Force Touch technology works with magnet-powered Taptic Engines, i.e. there will be no actual “clicking” on the trackpad but it will detect the pressure of the touch on the trackpad and work accordingly.
Also, the trackpad is 40% larger than the previous models, enabling it for better multi-touch and pressure sensitivity. In addition, the trackpad is said to support the Apple Pencil as well. That is, you can actually draw on it with the Apple Pencil. Well, not only draw, but you can use it as an input device like a joystick or an “Air Mouse”. But I’ll mostly use it to draw, I guess.
5) 13″ MacBook Pro 2016: Misc
Now that we’re nearly at the end of 5 New Features of MacBook Pro 13″ 2016, let’s discuss some lesser known features. While these features mostly go unnoticed, they make a significant difference. First up, the keyboard. As the new 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 is to be thinner and smaller, the keyboards will use Butterfly key mechanism. This will provide a similar typing experience to the 12″ MacBook in terms of keystroke. It will have only 1 mm of travel, but you will get used to it in now time.
Next, the 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 has stereo speakers. The 15″ models have always had these speakers but it’s new for the 13″ models. Previously, the sounds just came from behind the macbook, but now there are speaker grills on the sides of the keyboard. Also, you can expect really great audio. Since the 12″ MacBooks have great audio, you can expect something much more than that in the 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 model.
